The notion of radicalism is a dangerous shock to unity and oneness, because this understanding pushes its beliefs to extremes so that social or political changes are quick and sudden. This is clearly a threat.
This was confirmed by the winner of the Bintang Yudhaharma Utama Republik Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Drs. Ermaya Suradinata SH., MH., MS in the National Seminar on Pancasila Ideology Development with the theme Anticipating the Threat of Radicalism Against the Unity of the Nation, 5 June 2023, in Jakarta.
Furthermore, this member of the Board of Experts at the Pancasila Ideology Agency (BPIP) of Republik Indonesia also explained that the existence of this understanding or attitude of radicalism must have had a negative impact on the unity and integrity of the nation and state. Additionally, radicalism can also lead to terror or violence, causing fear in society.
According to Prof. Dr. Drs. Ermaya Suradinata in her paper entitled Advocacy for the Development of Pancasila Ideology in the Context of Anticipating the Threat of Radicalism Against the Unity of the Nation emphasized that terrorism cannot be separated from radicalism.
“Thus it can be understood that Radicalism is an understanding which is a phase towards Terrorism. “So radicalism tends to animate acts of terrorism,” Prof. Ermaya Suradinata emphasized.
Prof. Dr. Drs. Ermaya Suradinata also explained that this could be a threat to Pancasila. So, according to Prof. Ermaya, moments like Santi Aji and this seminar have increased in intensity. “This is to increase the understanding of society or the nation’s components of Pancasila values in social life,” emphasized Prof. Ermaya.
In addition, the Governor of the Republic of Indonesia’s National Defense Institute (Lemhannas) for the 2001-2005 period also described anticipating the threat of radicalism, among others, by increasing community participation through empowerment. “This can be done through empowering strategic forums such as FKDM, FKUB, and FPK, as well as other forums,” explained Prof. Ermaya emphasized that this was also an effort for early detection and early prevention in the Earthing of Pancasila.
Together, explained Prof. Ermaya, increasing the involvement of the TNI, Polri and Regional Government in order to optimize the performance of these forums. “Such strategic steps are significant in the regions, to assist the government in creating security, peace and public order as well as implementing Development Programs,” added Prof. Ermaya.
